1. Clydesdale Colliery Accident:
On January 21, 1960 the worst Coal Mining disaster happened in African Recorded history. The Coal Brook mine caved in trapping 435 mine workers. There were no survivors. They did not have a drill suited for drilling a hole into the mine from which miners could escape. As a result they bought a drill suitable enough for accidents like these. 2. Benxihu Colliery Accident: Asia is one of the largest coal suppliers in the world. In China there was a coal dust explosion killed 1,549 people. The death toll was so high because the owners closed off the mine so that the fire would not spread. Most of the miners died from suffocation of the smoke. This is the worst mining accident of all time and the second worst industrial accident in history. 3. Courrières mine disaster: This was another coal dust explosion. It occurred in Northern France in 1906. Two-thirds of the miners were killed; there were also children who were killed. In addition, people were also injured; they typically had burns or got sick from the gases. Surprisingly there were thirteen people who survived in the mine for twenty days. The cause of the accident was never identified. |
